Starbucks’ Aomori-Only Apple Frappuccino: Price, Where to Find It, and How to Order
Starbucks—the global coffee giant—has teamed up with little old Aomori!
Even more surprisingly, its new Frappuccino made with Aomori-grown apples is not planned as a short seasonal promotion. It is joining the regular menu all year round.
As someone from Aomori, I can hardly contain my surprise and delight!
So, while I am still riding this wave of excitement, let me tell you everything we know so far.
Starting August 5, 2026, all Starbucks stores in Aomori Prefecture will serve the Aomori Yadara-mee Ringo Almond Milk Frappuccino®, made with apples grown in Aomori.
The best part for both travelers and locals is that it is planned as a year-round product. No need to rush to Aomori during a short promotional period. Thank goodness!
Temporary stockouts may occur, however. Locals like me may rush out in delight when it launches, so could we see sellouts during the first few days? That is only my prediction—but if you want to try it immediately after launch, you may need to be prepared.
I hope it sells well!
For many international travelers, Starbucks is a familiar and easy place to step into. A sweet drink can also be very welcome after a long day of sightseeing.
There is even a Starbucks on the first floor of &LOVINA, a shopping center directly connected to Aomori Station. It is a convenient place for both travelers and locals to take a break.
With this regional drink, you can try Aomori-grown apples during a short sightseeing break or while waiting for your train.
I have not tried the drink yet, so this article is based on information officially announced by Starbucks Coffee Japan. Once it goes on sale, I plan to try it and publish my own review.
What is the Aomori apple Frappuccino?
The full Japanese product name is:
青森 やだらめぇりんご アーモンドミルク フラペチーノ®
A rough romanization for ordering is:
Aomori Yadara-mee Ringo Almond Milk Frappuccino
According to the official announcement from Starbucks Coffee Japan, the drink uses apples grown in Aomori Prefecture.
Its most distinctive feature is the crisp, crunchy texture of the apple pieces, designed to make you feel as though you are eating an apple.
Starbucks has not announced a particular apple variety or a more specific growing area. For now, all we know officially is that the apples come from Aomori Prefecture.
The Frappuccino is available in Tall size only.
- To go: ¥825
- Dine-in: ¥840
Both prices include tax.
What does “yadara-mee” mean?
“Yadara-mee” is a local expression used in Aomori.
- Yadara adds the sense of “very,” “extremely” or “really.”
- Mee means “delicious” or “tasty.”
Put together, it means something like “really delicious” or “seriously delicious.”
Aomori Prefecture has several regional dialects, so the words people use vary depending on where they live. Here, “yadara-mee” gives the product name a friendly, distinctly Aomori flavor.
Important note about almond milk
The drink uses almond milk, but that does not mean it is dairy-free.
Starbucks states that almond milk itself is not cow’s milk or a dairy beverage, but this Frappuccino contains milk ingredients.
If you have a milk or almond allergy, or follow a particular diet, check the latest ingredient and allergen information with the store before ordering.
Add Aomori apple pieces to another drink—or even food
The Frappuccino is not the only new apple option.
Starbucks will also introduce:
青森りんご果肉カスタマイズ
Aomori Ringo Kaniku Customization — an Aomori apple pieces add-on
This add-on also uses Aomori-grown apples and is planned to remain available throughout the year at all Starbucks stores in Aomori Prefecture.
You can add the apple pieces to a drink or food item of your choice.
- To go: ¥108
- Dine-in: ¥110
There is one important condition: apple pieces can only be added to food when dining inside the store. The takeout price applies when adding them to a beverage.
The Aomori Apple Team recommends Chai Tea Latte
Not sure what to combine with the apple pieces?
The Aomori Apple Team recommends adding them to a Chai Tea Latte.
According to the official Starbucks Stories article about the new program, the cinnamon flavor of the Chai Tea Latte combines with the apple pieces to create an experience similar to eating apple pie.
Of course, I have not tried this combination yet.
But apples and cinnamon? I may have to try this one together with the Frappuccino!
How to order it in Japan
The easiest method is to show the Japanese product name to the barista on your phone:
青森 やだらめぇりんご アーモンドミルク フラペチーノをお願いします。
You can also say:
“Aomori Yadara-mee Ringo Almond Milk Frappuccino, onegaishimasu.”
There is no need to choose a size because it is only available in Tall.
To ask for the apple pieces add-on, show the following phrase:
青森りんご果肉を追加できますか?
It means:
“Can I add the Aomori apple pieces?”
If saying the Japanese phrase is difficult, point to the item on the menu and say:
“Apple pieces, please!”
Pointing works in every language. Humanity has been ordering things this way for a very long time.
Why is Starbucks launching an Aomori-only drink?
The drink is part of the new STARBUCKS JIMOTO PROGRAM, which begins as Starbucks marks 30 years since opening its first store in Japan in 1996.
“Jimoto” means “local area” or “hometown” in Japanese.
The program will launch on August 5, 2026, in three regions:
- Aomori Prefecture
- Gunma Prefecture
- Okinawa Prefecture
Each region will feature products and activities connected to its local character, resources and communities.
In Aomori, a group of Starbucks employees known as the Aomori Ringo-tai, or Aomori Apple Team, has been working with apple farmers and other local people.
The new Frappuccino and apple pieces customization were developed as part of an effort to share the appeal of Aomori apples and help carry their future forward.
You can read more about the program and the Aomori Apple Team in the official Starbucks Stories article.
Go, Aomori apples—take on the world!
